Walden wins her third 6A title

 

Junior Cheyenne Walden of Charles Page (Sand Springs) won her third consecutive Class 6A girls cross country title and did it by a wider margin than ever.

 

RESULTS 

 

Walden ran 17:57.9 on the 5K course in Edmond, Okla., within two seconds of what she ran last year. But this time she won by 52.3 seconds. Rilee Rigdon (18:50.2) and Shay Stayton (19:21) were next, both of Bartlesville, which dominated the team competition with 45 points. Bartlesville put four in the top 10. Norman was second with 70 points and Owasso was third with 107.

 

In the 6A boys race, Ean Beyer of Norman North picked up where former teammate Ben Barrett left off and won the individual title in 15:49.2. Jenks, the dominant program in the state, put five in the first 15 to win the team title with 41 points. Bartlesville was second with 78 points and Edmond Memorial was third with 122.

 

In Class 5A, Tecumseh senior Tessa Porter won the girls race in 19:21.2. Bishop Kelley freshman Tess Crosley was second, 14 seconds back. Claremore edged Bishop McGuiness by a single point, 99 to 100, to win the title.

 

Eugene Grayson of Glenpool won the boys race by 10 seconds in 16:21.5. Guymon (73) won the team title.

 

In the smaller classifications, Class 2A, 3A and 4A, girls still run 3,200 meters. Alyssa Soldberg of Lincoln, winner of the 4A race, turned in the fastest time with 11:23.62. Metro Christian (4A), Marietta (3A) and Cordell (2A) won the team titles.

 

The three smaller classes also ran a week earlier on a different course (Shawnee). Zach Black of Sallisaw ran 15:46.06 for the Class 4A win. Lincoln Christian won the 4A boys team title.

 

 

Marietta put five in the top 12 to win the 3A boys title; Isai Rodridguez (15:27.8) ran the fastest time of anyone on the Shawnee course in the 2A race and won by 63 seconds. Hooker won the 2A boys title.
