By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Deer Creek (Edmond) put all five of its scorers in the top 15 of the Class 6A championship final in Oklahoma on Saturday and continued to mark progress as one of the best teams in state history.

Brody Woodcock's third-place finish led the team and the top five were split by just 24 seconds.

Deer Creek harbors hopes of becoming Oklahoma's first NXN representative and will next look to the challenging task that lies ahead at NXR South in Texas.

Senior Zach Rutherford of Edmond North won the 6A boys race after placing third last year, in 15:16.13.

Junior Bella Nelson, a transfer from Niwot High in Colorado, ran 17:29.10 to lead Owasso to another 6A girls team title.

Lincoln Christian moved up from 4A to 5A and wasted no time collecting state championships at the bigger classification.

Lincoln Christian swept the team titles, with the boys scoring 62 points and the girls 45.

LC freshman Tennyson Housley and teammate Baylee Woodrich went 1-2 to lead the team. Housley's winning time was 18:28.41.

But LC put four in the top 15 on the way to a team victory over Guymon, which was second with 81 points.

Twin sisters from Pauls Valley, Kenzi Readnour and Kiera Readnour, went 1-2 to power their team to the Class 4A state title. Kenzi won the 3,200-meter race in 11:57.44 and Kiera was behind her in 11:58.93. Amaya Grant of Cushing was third in 11:59.62.

Clay McKinney, a sophomore from Regent Prep, won an exciting 4A boys race in 15:42.19. Corbin Galt of Perkins-Tryon was less than a second back in 15:42.98.

Cole Powell and Ethan Johnson linked up and eighth and ninth and helped Bethany capture the 4A boys team title.

The Casady boys went 2-4-10-17-19 in the overall race on the way to a 3A boys championship with 47 points.

Levi Haynes of Community Christian won the race in 16:21.12.

Freshman Ryleigh Hodges led Metro Christian Academy to the 3A girls team title with her individual win in 12:02.36.

Hooker remained the top small-school program in the state and swept the 2A team titles. The girls scored 29 points with all five scorers in the top 19 overall (top 11 of the team scoring). Kamryn Baggs of Laverne won the race in 11:56.49.
