Deer Creek Boys Hold Onto 6A Title With Three Runners In Top Six By Mary Albl of DyeStat Saturday's Oklahoma 6A/5A High School Cross Country Championships were highlighted with repeat performances. Mustang junior Gabe Simonsen cruised to his second straight 6A title at Edmond Santa Fe High, winning in the fastest time of the day, 15 minutes, 39.89 seconds. Deer Creek successfully defended its team title with three runners finishing in the top six. The Jenks girls claimed the 6A title, scoring 53 points with four runners finishing in the top 16. Broken Arrow sophomore Payton Hinkle won the race in 18:03.44. It was a near-perfect score for the Bishop Kelley girls as they ran to another 5A state title. Led by sophomore Ella Eureste's first-place finish (19:15.66), her second straight title, Bishop Kelley had four runners in the top six, and all five scorers finished in the top 10 to score 25 points. In the boys 5A race, senior Christian Arenivar of Santa Fe South Charter won his second consecutive title in 15:45.04 and made a massive improvement from his 2018 winning time of 16:24.9. The team title was won by Guymon with 61 points. 4A/3A/2A - Oct. 26th- Gordon Cooper Technology Center, Shawnee The Lincoln Christian boys and girls made it a 4A sweep on Saturday Oct. 26 at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. Senior Nate Gibson led the team with a runner-up finish (16:17.7), as Lincoln Christian scored 75 points to claim the crown. Junior Caden Goss of Fort Gibson won the race in 16:15.81. The Lincoln Christian girls scored 67 points to claim the title, while Weatherford freshman Jordan Hoffman won the individual title on the 3,200-meter course in 12:11.39. The Kiefer boys finished with three runners in the top 15 and all five in the top 22 to win the 3A title with 63 points. Little Axe junior Agustin Lopez placed first in 17:01.26. The Marietta girls repeated as 3A champs with 62 points, while Jones freshman Tabitha Fox won the 3,200-meter race in 12:11.35. In 2A, senior Collen Mclain guided the Mooreland boys to a second straight state title. Mclain won in 16:27.41, almost a minute faster than the next competitor. It was a close finish for the 2A girls team title, as Watonga edged out Hooker, 52-53. Zoe Weaver, a junior from Beaver, won the title in 12:07.42.
